Reading and Discussion Group – “Our World Remade: World War I”

Onondaga Historical Association is proud to announce that we have been awarded a grant from Humanities of New York to hold a reading and discussion group in our museum at 321 Montgomery Street. The dates for these 4 sessions are 9/26, 10/25, 11/15, and 12/13 at 6:30 pm.

Update (9/13): This year’s group has been filled. We will announce next year’s topic in August, 2018.

The program is free and open to the public, although pre-registration is required so that books can be provided for participants.

The centennial of the United States entering World War One in 1917 has created a renewed interest in the “war to end all wars.” At our downtown Syracuse museum, Onondaga Historical Association dedicated a large gallery space to an exhibit highlighting the contributions of the people of Onondaga County to the war effort.

Led by OHA Curator of history Robert J. Searing, these four informal, monthly sessions will focus on selected readings that deal with various aspects of the war, from the battlefield to the home-front and how the Great War fundamentally altered the course of warfare, geo-politics, and the lives of ordinary people across the world. All 4 of our meetings will take place inside the gallery housing OHA’s World War I exhibit, which includes a wide variety of 3-D objects and artifacts from our collections in addition to an incredible array of photographs and wartime images.
