Innovation on Tap is the story of innovation in America told through the eyes of 25 entrepreneurs, from Eli Whitney and his cotton gin to Lin-Manuel Miranda and his Broadway smash, Hamilton to Syracuse’s own, Mary Elizabeth Evans Sharpe, a poor Syracuse girl who made a name for herself with her candies, treats, and recipes.
Author, Eric Schultz, dedicates an entire chapter of his newest book, Innovation on Tap, to Syracuse’s own Mary Elizabeth Evans Sharpe for her outstanding entrepreneurial success from a small child candymaker to a multimillionaire woman of the (then new) 20th century and beyond.
Join us at OHA on Sunday, March 29th at 2 pm as we welcome Eric Schultz to speak about his newest book, the entrepreneurs in it, and Mary Elizabeth herself.
The stories illustrate the sweep and impact of innovation. From razor blades, insurance, and baseball to smart cities, online running communities, and cybersecurity, innovators across three centuries gather in an imaginary barroom to discuss the essential themes of entrepreneurship–Mechanization, Mass Production, Consumerism, Digitization, and Sustainability–while emphasizing and reemphasizing the importance of community to their success.
