Volunteering or interning at OHA is rewarding, fun, easy, and allows us to continue preserving, exhibiting, and interpreting Onondaga County’s history. Choose how you want to get involved and fill out the form on the bottom of this page to connect with an OHA staff member.
If you’re a student, your internship may count as credit towards your degree. Please contact your advisor to see how working with OHA can help you earn credits. Currently available internships:
Become a docent: Assist with tours and educational programs at the Onondaga Historical Museum.
Development and Membership: Help our development team with phone and mail correspondence, coordinating events, marketing, database management, and more.
Event Assistance: Volunteer on the nights of events; take tickets, mingle with guests and assist with their needs, communicate between staff, vendors, and guests, answer guests’ questions, lead walking tours, and much more.
Maintenance & Construction Assistance: Do you have painting, carpentry, or construction skills? Whether we’re changing exhibits, building shelves for objects, or just cleaning up, there’s always a need for those who want to roll up their sleeves and get to work.
Collections and Archives: OHA is always in need of volunteers and interns to assist with cataloging objects and recording the information into our database. If you’re interested in learning more about working with the museum or archival collections, please contact Tom Hunter, Curator of Collections or Sarah Kozma, Archivist.
Gift Gallery: Help out in our retail shop with inventory, product displays, and more!
