A Grain of Salt
July 17 @ 6:00 pm - 7:00 pm
A Grain of Salt is a talk by OHA Curator Bob Searing, exploring the history of the Salt City, from the Great Law of Peace to the Erie Canal to the foundation of Syracuse University and the rise of the city’s industrial might in the 20th century as one of the 30 largest cities in America. The lecture also looks at the city’s rich history of social justice activities, from its role as the Grand Central Depot on the Underground Railroad to the heady days of the Civil Rights movement in the ’60s and ’70s.
Ultimately, A Grain of Salt is designed to give folks a much more holistic understanding of the city’s history, so as to understand the present moment where Central New York once again finds itself on the precipice of another massive transformation.
$5 admission, free to OHA members
