Voices and Votes: Family Book Club

April 29 @ 6:00 pm - 7:00 pm

Imagine a world where a woman couldn’t buy a home, had no rights to her own children, and couldn’t even cast a vote.  This is the situation in the United States until the early 1900’s, when a group of brave and determined women, known as suffragists, were inspired by the women of the Hudenosaunee (Iroquois) and changed the minds of the nation.

Join OHA and the Liverpool Public Library as we discuss the book “We Want Equal Rights:  How Suffragists Were Influenced by Haudenosaunee Women,” written by local Syracuse University professor Sally Roesch Wagner.

PLEASE REGISTER ONE PERSON PER FAMILY.

The Liverpool Public Library and the Onondaga Historical Association collaborate to bring this small group reading and discussion group to the community. The OHA will be host to the Smithsonian’s exhibit “Voices and Votes” from April 18 – May 30 at the Skä•noñh Great Law of Peace Center.

Register by visiting https://www.lpl.org/events/programs-and-events/events-calendar/

Voices and Votes is a Museum on Main Street (MoMS) exhibition developed by the Smithsonian Institution Traveling Exhibition Service. It’s based on an exhibition by the National Museum of American History. It has been made possible in New York State by the Museum Association of New York. Support for MoMS in New York State has been provided by the United States Congress and the William G. Pomeroy Foundation.

“A New Agora for New York: Museums as Spaces for Democracy” humanities discussion programs are made possible in part by a major grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities.
