This permanent installation in the reception lounge of the Syracuse Home Association complex in Baldwinsville traces the rich history of this senior living facility, whose roots pre-date the Civil War. The panel exhibit reviews the growth of the organization, founded by leading citizens of Syracuse, and its vital role in the community. This included the many years that it occupied an architectural landmark facility on Syracuse’s Townsend Street.
The heritage of The Syracuse Home Association is deeply woven throughout the general history of Greater Syracuse and Onondaga County. Over the years, many individuals who played a prominent role in local affairs were directly involved with The Home and several made life-long commitments to its development. And an examination of the lives of others who also were dedicated to the work of The Home, perhaps though not as famous, provide fascinating insights into our area’s history.
